Last year I went with a group of 28 people to this general location sledding and had a grand time, so we decided to go there again. We had a smaller group this time, but it was still a lot of fun! Here is a random collection of a few pictures that I took while I was home for Christmas. It’s always good to go home and this year was no exception. I don’t get to go home very often because of the distances involved. I was over at Jenny’s apartment around the beginning of Sep 2009 and she asked me if I could do her a favor and take her old wheelchair to get rid of it. She said it didn’t work anymore but she didn’t know what was wrong with it. During the summer I had been talking to Nick and he had mentioned that he was looking for a power wheelchair so that he could make a motorized couch. I realized that this was potentially the perfect opportunity to make that happen! After taking the wheelchair apartment and trying to figure out what was wrong with it over a period of 2 months on our spare time, Nick and Stew ended up taking the batteries out of their cars to test it and it worked! We had tried to charge the wheelchair batteries but they would never charge so we could never be sure what was going on with the power. Nick then came up with the idea to take the batteries to Autozone and they trickle charged them for 24 hours and the batteries revived somewhat. JJ had some welding skills and he welded on some metal bars that we bought onto the existing chassis and Nick bought a small couch for DI and we put it all together! This is the result! We had planned to take Jenny on a ride on the couch since she made it possible, but the weather wasn’t great so we hadn’t done it yet. Then she got a job and was going to be moving in a matter of days during the Christmas break. I arranged the time with her and I realized that it would be fun to race her in her current wheelchair before taking her for a ride on the couch. That’s how this video came about. You can also see it on facebook here Here are some pictures that were taking while we were racing. So one of my neighbors has had this dream to make a motorized couch for the last several years. Well a few months ago I was given a motorized wheelchair by someone and it didn’t work. We finally figured out that the batteries needed to be trickle charged before they would work. They still weren’t overly strong since they were old batteries that had been used for several years already. But in any case we took the chair off and replaced it with a couch and voila! Pretty awesome isn’t it? It’s a really smooth ride and is way fun to drive around! ![]() I should make a video of it, because a still image just doesn't quite do it justice. A bunch of us in my family got together out in Park City and had a grand thanksgiving together. I had a fun time taking pictures of all the cute kids. I also got around to eating and playing a little golf when I put down my camera.
![]() I don't know...something kinda scary about that pool ball!
![]() Ya, simulated golf using real golf balls and clubs hitting them just like out in a real course. Pretty awesome how it works!
![]() Yummy pie!
Every year in the fall my ward does an activity where the ward is broken up into around 5 groups who then make a movie over a period of 4-6 weeks then we all get together to watch each others movies and have a party! It’s always quite a fun activity and very entertaining watching each others movies. Here are some of the pictures that I took at this years Oscars activity. If you want to see a few past Oscars movies I’ve been a part of you can see them by going to http://anthonydunster.com/drupal6/?q=node/3 ![]() They did a great job with the decorations! ![]() They had lots of good eats too! ![]() And drinks! ![]() And awesome people. ![]() We got all the read heads together for a picture. ![]() Sam made an amazing unique Oscars trophie this year which was made out of a couple things bought from the DI and melded together with bondo and painted gold. Quite creepy looking actually. ![]() They had lots of good drinks for all. ![]() And all enjoyed them. ![]() I'm just playing around. ![]() The next day we had an Oscars re-showing in my apartment for those who hadn't been able to make it to the activity. I strung up the christmas lights and put out all the leftover food from the activity. ![]() Just being a poser. This time it was a stake Halloween party. I took plenty of pictures, but most of them are posed in front of a screen as they had me doing group photography during a lot of the event. Those aren’t all that interesting so I’ve only selected a few to show here. ![]() I told people to get our ward members together in front of the screen so we could do a ward group shot. Well we soon discovered that there were way more people from our ward there than we had realized so we took it outside and this is how many people were there from our ward! ![]() Since they don't allow masks, some people chose to just put them on the back of their head. Still pretty freaky looking actually. ![]() Work it Stew! ![]() They had quite a few things to do there. ![]() Yes, I was a tourist...photographer One of the advantages (or disadvantages) of living where I do is that the parade goes right past my apartment so we could potentially watch it from our living room as we have a large window looking out onto the road. While this would be the comfortable thing to do, we never do because we have a tradition of going out to the street as a large group and its a lot more fun. We also take any furniture we can out to the side of the road such as porch swings, lazy boys, couches (motorized or non motorized), love sacks etc… It’s always a ton of fun and there’s even blue pancakes being served just across the street at the duck pond! Anyway here’s some pictures to show you what I would otherwise have to spend thousands of words to describe. ![]() This couple goes by every year on this motorcycle and I always get several awesome pictures of them as they ride back and forth! One of these years maybe I should put down my camera and ride with them on my motorcycle! ![]() Way to represent! ![]() One of our friends was throwing candy, so of couse she showered us with it as she went by! ![]() When I say 'showered' I wasn't kidding. ![]() Even Captain Jack Sparrow may or may not have been 'showered' (ok, I think the most appropriate word is probably 'chucked' at and no I didn't do any of the chucking.) ![]() Even though there isn't really any parade happening in this picture, I'm posting it for all those of you who say that I'm not in the pictures enough I guess we could have dressed up and done a trunk or treat like a lot of other wards out there, but we decided to do a more college student fitting and beneficial Halloween event. I’m not sure who came up with the idea, but it worked well! People of course dressed up, and there was candy to be sure! The activity was putting together care packages for servicemen and women overseas. Here are some of the pictures I took. ![]() Everyone hard at work...or possibly working not very hard. ![]() Part of the packages were letters written to the recepients. As to what they wrote about, I cannot say. ![]() Now this letter, I can say a bit more what was written and as you can see it wasn't exactly serious subject matter. ![]() I was attacked by a wookie of sorts... ![]() There might have been some bongo playing in the kitchen! |
